Huat studied at the AA London, under the tutorship of Sir Peter COOK, at the time of Peter's tenure as Professor of architecture before leading the chair at the now famous Bartlett. Huat's career spanned from his ten year working experience with Lord Foster's London offices, from 1984 thereafter at the Lyons and Nimes offices during the construction phases of the Nimes Mediateque Project. There Huat lived in France for two years, exploring the design offices of Jourda Perraudin Architectes, Lyons and a biref encounter with the offices of Renzo Piano and his colleagues at RFR Paris. Huat taght briefly at the AA with Peter Cook and also with David Duster at the Bartlett before returning to Foster and Associates in their current office at Hester Road London to complete the King Cross redevelopment Project and the Chelsea Reach Offices.
A short stint in Zaha Hadid's offices followed, where he worked on the Vitra Fire Station Project. Then he went on to work for the Late Ron Herron, who was one of the founders of Archigram movement. At Imagination Ltd, where Huat also met with Gary Withers, he worked on Canada Water Station, one of the Jubilee Line Extension Projects, at the time under the direction of Roland Paoletti who hailed from Hong Kong.
Huat LIM is now in partnership with Susanne Zeidler, who hails from Frankfurt, and they have since their return from London practiced ever since in Kuala Lumpur. Susanne and Huat's first building in Kuala Lumpur was the Capitol Hotel, a 160-room design, standing in the heart of the city, remaining completely modern to this today. Thereafter the BOH Visitor Centre took most of the attention given to their practice having seen publication in many reknown magazines. This Project saw its recommendation for the AgaKhan Award and has also been recognised to be one of Malaysia's most extraordinary building since the Petronas Twin Towers.
Aborad Huat has been involved with Kengo Kuma for the Zhongtai Holdings Lighting company headquarters in Shanghai, but also for the more popularly known Beijing Head Offices, also for the same company. In Singapore zlgdesign has seen the construction of the BIOPolis Facades and also the MRT Station master Control rooms. With TRHY Huat has seen the competition entry for the National Library of Singapore and thereafter helped to design and develop the entire concept to the Tender stages. Huat also helped LDY of London win the XIAN Airport Terminal and Masterplan Commission. In Belfast and Croydon Huat LIM has seen winning entries for the Clinical Design markets, including the Alexandria Hospital Design Competition.
