Project Aqualive

Project Aqualive has been a favourite with us, a celebration in water and light. This is the entrance view, with similar design elements as the Beijing Showroom, exuding simply a sense of external awareness and sheer delight in using the simplest materials. Columns of water lit at night casts fantastic shadows and colour onto the pavement, a way-finding element.

BOH Visitor Centre

View of the BOH Visitor Centre taken from the valley below. For details of location and visits, please contact ZLG. This project attracted a fair amount of publicity principally due to its unusual design using site context to inform the concept, notably utilising fallen trees as facade elements and also for not disturbing any of the existing site forms and existing trees.

 

Beijing Showroom

Showroom and Offices for a Chinese lighting company based in Beijing. Mirrored wall and red coloured wooden walls give this entrance courtyard a unique identity. The mirrored finish stainless steel canopy marks entrance to gallery inside this 70-year old building.

Great Shot

Ir Pang, our engineer, captured this wonderful image of the approach to the new BOH Visitor Centre in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. This project was conceived to provide some 12 000 sqft of new retail and visitor facilities for the tea estate, and is now open to visitors. Building is constructed using structural steel, the envelope kept transparent, and no felling of trees, and all materials are used in the best interest of the conserving the site. Fallen trees [from storms] are re-cycled, cut into logs and made into facade. What is even more incredible, the project took just over a year to execute, and costs under USD 500,000.

AquaCity

This is an image that we use to illustrate ZLG's focus on executing concepts which are ultra-zonic,meaning explorations of territory outside the realm of mainstream building typology. Whilst our interests lie in architecture we also feel consistently attracted to investigating realms of architecture in new environments, in this case the seas of East Malaysia, a project to generate offshore communities some two hundred miles off the coast of Sabah.

Minimalist Office

Derek WONG offices is now Bang & Olufsen new Headquarters, located in Kuala Lumpur. Minimalist Designs, using wood as primary element material.

Bamboo Canopies

Study of the external blocks housing the bathrooms and the toilets: Materials are used to preserve the natural feel of the site, and also to enhance visual porosity of the scheme. Thin black metal columns and similarly appointed handrails and balusters are placed in strategic locations to give this BOH Visitor Centre a light feeling, with high ceilings and bamboo finished canopies promote the tropical ambiance of the entire project.
